Biokode in two minutes

What is Biokode?

An AI health coach app for iOS and Android. You log what you eat by photo, voice or barcode, connect your wearable, and Kodi, its coach, crosses food with your sleep, HRV and training to tell you what to change tomorrow.

Who is it for?

For healthy adults who want to eat better, lose fat or build muscle with a plan that adjusts to their real data, and for anyone wearing a wearable who wants to know how what they eat relates to how they sleep. It is not a medical service.

Who is Kodi?

Biokode’s coach: a panda with memory of your history that opens your day in the morning, closes it at night and answers when you write. It can be switched off with a toggle (data-only mode).

Which languages is it in?

Spanish, English and Italian, interface and coach included. Kodi replies in the language you write in.

Is it on the App Store and Google Play yet?

It is in the final stretch before release. Until then you can create your account and use Biokode in the browser with a 7-day free trial; everything you log will be waiting for you in the app on launch day.

How is Biokode different from a calorie counter?

A counter adds up what you log. Biokode stores every meal as a record with source and margin, tracks 27 micronutrients against European references, recalibrates your plan with your weight and crosses food with your sleep. And Kodi tells you about it without being asked.

Logging food

How do I log a meal?

With a photo of the plate, a voice note describing it, a typed sentence or the barcode on the pack. Every route ends in the same record: foods, quantities, occasion and time.

How accurate is the photo?

Measured on Nutrition5k, a public dataset: a median error of 23 to 25% in plate weight and a mean bias of ±1%. Those are top-down photos with no size reference, harder than a phone’s. That is why the portion is flagged as estimated and you correct it in one tap.

Where do the nutritional values come from?

From USDA and CIQUAL for food composition and from Open Food Facts for products with a barcode. Every food keeps its source. Calories are computed from the macros (4, 4, 9 and 7 kcal per gram of protein, carbohydrate, fat and alcohol).

Which micronutrients does it track?

27, compared with EFSA dietary reference values for your sex and age: iron, magnesium, calcium, zinc, iodine, folate, vitamins A, C, D, E, K and the B group, among others. You see them by day and by week.

What if I make a mistake or want to correct something?

Tell Kodi (“it was two servings”, “drop the bread”) and it edits the last entry instead of creating another. You can also tap the portion in the entry itself.

Do rice and pasta count raw or cooked?

Cooked by default, which is how they look on the plate. If you say “80 g of rice, raw”, that is respected as is.

Can I enter the calories from a menu myself?

Yes. If you say “about 700 kcal according to the menu”, those calories rule and are not recalculated; macros are estimated and flagged as pending refinement.

How are drinks and water logged?

Coffee, tea and soft drinks as food, by the liquid you drink. Water goes to the hydration log, with its own daily target.

Kodi, the coach

When does Kodi write to me?

On its own, twice a day: in the morning with your plan and your streak, and at night with the day’s balance. In between it answers when you write. You choose the times and quiet hours.

What does it remember about me?

What matters for advising you: goals, schedule, usual dishes, injuries, things you dislike. Every night it goes over the day and consolidates what it learned. You can see and delete what it stores.

Can I change its tone?

Yes: you pick the base personality in settings (from affectionate sergeant to sober analyst) and Kodi also adapts to how you write.

Can I switch it off?

Yes. Data-only mode switches the coach and its messages off and leaves the engine intact: Bio Score, micronutrients, patterns and adaptive plan, with the interface of a metrics dashboard.

Does it give medical advice?

No. It works on habits, food and general training for healthy adults, and refers you to a professional when something falls outside that.

Does it ask follow-up questions?

At most one a day, and only when you log something that warrants it (for example, an estimated portion worth refining). Never in its proactive morning and evening messages.

Plan and goals

How is my calorie plan calculated?

It starts with Mifflin-St Jeor, your activity level and the pace you choose (gentle, moderate or intensive: a percentage below your expenditure to lose fat, or above it to build muscle, with prudent caps). Protein sits in a grams-per-kilo band taken from the ISSN.

Does the plan change by itself?

Every week the engine compares your intake with your weight trend over recent weeks and estimates your real expenditure. If an adjustment is due, Kodi proposes it with the data in front of you, capped, and you confirm. Nothing is applied without you.

How often do I need to weigh myself?

Three or four mornings a week is ideal. With too few weigh-ins in the window the engine does not adjust and tells you. It uses the trend, not the last weigh-in.

What happens when I reach my target weight?

The plan moves to maintenance before you keep dropping on momentum. And if your real weight moves far enough from the one the plan used, it is recomputed in full with the new one.

Does it work for building muscle?

Yes: a moderate surplus (a percentage depending on pace), protein at the upper end of the band and the same recalibration engine. There is a dedicated page on building muscle.

Does it have training plans?

Yes, Kodi can build a strength and activity plan that fits your goal and your week. The training plan does not adapt by itself the way the calorie plan does: you ask Kodi for changes.

Does it count steps and exercise towards calories?

Steps and workouts come in from your wearable and show up in your day, but the plan does not add “calories burned” to the target: real expenditure is learned from your weight and intake, which is more reliable than the watch’s figure.

Sleep, wearable and patterns

Which wearable do I need?

Any that writes to Apple Health (iPhone) or Health Connect (Android): Apple Watch, Garmin, Oura, Whoop, Fitbit, Samsung and others. Biokode reads sleep, stages, resting heart rate, HRV, steps and workouts.

What is a pattern in Biokode?

An association between a factor (late dinner, alcohol, late training, sauna, an event of yours) and your following nights, computed over your last few months with sample minimums and a statistical test per metric. It is presented as “is associated with”, never as cause.

How long until the first pattern appears?

A factor needs a minimum number of nights with it and of baseline nights; strong labels need more. With a wearable and daily logging, two or three weeks. Until then you will see “observing, N of X nights”.

Can I log mood and energy?

Yes, from 1 to 5 with a tap. They are crossed with the rest to see what actually agrees with you, under the same statistical rules as sleep.

What is the Bio Score?

A daily score of what you actually logged: food, water, sleep and movement, with explicit criteria. When it goes up or down, you know why. It is not a measure of your health.

Can I upload a blood test?

Yes, as a PDF. Biokode extracts up to 41 markers and Kodi keeps them in mind as context for its advice. It does not interpret them as a clinical report.

What about without a wearable?

Everything on the nutrition side works the same: logging, micronutrients, adaptive plan and coach. What does not exist without a wearable is the cross with sleep, resting heart rate and HRV.

Privacy and data

Where is my data stored?

In the European Union, encrypted in transit and at rest, under GDPR. Your food, sleep and weight records are health data and are treated as such.

Does the AI process my data outside the EU?

Yes, AI processing happens in the United States under standard contractual clauses. What is sent is what each task needs, not your full history.

Is my data used to train models?

No. Biokode does not train models on your data and uses AI providers through their APIs, whose terms exclude training on that data.

Are there ads or data sales?

No ads, no data sales and no business partners with access to your information.

Can I delete my account and my data?

Yes, from the app or from the account deletion page. Everything is deleted: records, conversations with Kodi and what it has memorised.

Can minors use it?

No. Biokode is meant for adults. It is also not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or for anyone who has or has had an eating disorder: there, the reference is a professional.

Price and account

How much does it cost?

€59.99 a year (€5.00 a month) or €12.99 a month with no commitment. The annual plan includes a 7-day free trial.

Is there a free plan?

No. There is a 7-day trial on the annual plan, and everything is included: coach, photo and voice, micronutrients, patterns and adaptive plan. No locked features.

Is there a usage limit?

Yes, a fair-use one so the AI stays affordable for everyone: 30 AI actions a day and 600 a month, spent however you like. A message to Kodi is 1 action; if that message logs food, add 1 per distinct food (“eggs and a smoothie” is 3). Logging from the diary, by text, voice or photo, is 1 per submission; a photo sent through the chat is 2 (the message plus the log). Scanning a barcode, repeating a dish, water, weight, sleep or workouts don’t count. Meal plans and training plans have their own separate allowance.

Can I cancel whenever I want?

Yes. You cancel from your account and keep using Biokode until the end of the paid period.

Can I use it on several devices?

Yes. Your account works in the browser and in the mobile app, with the same data everywhere.

Cannot find your question?

Where are the technical details and sources?

On the methodology page: formulas, references (EFSA, WHO, ISSN, ACSM, Mifflin-St Jeor), data sources (USDA, CIQUAL, Open Food Facts) and the measured results, with their limits.

How do I contact you?

Through the contact link in the footer. We read everything, and the questions that keep coming up end up on this page.

The best way to answer the rest is to try it

Create your account, log what you eat today and tomorrow morning Kodi opens your day. 7-day free trial on the annual plan.
